Full Circle Arts announces the winners of its photography competition, “Reflections”. The participants were asked to look for reflected images in the world around them. They have come up with a wide variety of images, from far away and close to home.
The winning photographs are: first prize - Reflected Refractions, by Meredith Janssen, second prize – Downtown Underworld, by D.D. Weaver, third prize – Flashy, by John Koval. Honorable mentions were awarded to Reflections of Bergen, by Kathryn Regel, Ghost Gator, by Amanda Tyler McGuire, and Bruges - Venice of the North, also by Amanda Tyler McGuire.
Judge for the show was Jeffrey Wilhelm, who was a photographer in the Navy, then a photojournalist for the Charlotte Observer. Now retired, he continues to photograph for himself and his friends.
The exhibition continues to April 8.
There is a separate show at Full Circle Arts, The Art of Drift and Rustic Wood Boxes, by Alan Darveaux. The Morganton-based Darveaux is a wood worker who crafts elegant small boxes from local wood. He has also created fantastical “dragons” from pieces of driftwood collected at a Devonian fossil bed on the Ohio River. The Art of Drift and Rustic Wood Boxes continues to April 1.
