We will also include information about discounts and upcoming events as well. You can expect this newsletter on or about the 1st and 15th of each month.

Dear Friends,

March is Music in Our Schools Month; a time when music advocates raise awareness about the importance of making quality music education available to all children. This echoes one of the core values of the GSO…accessibility. As an organization, we’re committed to making sure that our education programs and performances are accessible to everyone, regardless of financial status. It’s why our venues are local, our ticket prices are low and we provide scholarships to students who demonstrate financial need.  

Like music educators nationwide, we believe in the transformative power of music on students’ lives and its impact on academic success, cognitive development, and overall well-being. Students who engage meaningfully with the arts do better across-the-board academically, and they also become more active and engaged citizens, voting, volunteering, and generally participating at higher rates than their peers.

The Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra (GYSO) exists to augment school and private music instruction. Participating in musical ensembles helps students build strong connections with their peers, learn cooperation and collaboration, and develop self-confidence and self discipline. In a symphony, the shy kid gets a chance to express himself. Onstage, the teen who hasn’t found a place to succeed yet, can shine.

On Sunday, March 10, you can come and watch some of the most talented young people I’ve ever seen, shine onstage. GYSO’s two most advanced orchestras, Symphony and Philharmonic, will perform in the Bobbie Bailey Performance Center. I encourage you to attend. These students play with joy and exuberance… and excellence. Purchase tickets here.

I know that if you hear them, you’ll agree with me… and all of the music educators out there celebrating music in our schools… that music isn’t extra. It’s essential.
