Planetarium Show

Take an exciting journey through our solar system on Saturday, October 7, from 2-3 PM at the Foothills Library! The Earth and Space Expedition Center's portable planetarium allows viewers of all ages to experience the planets, moons, dwarf planets and constellations from a wide variety of cultures. We will also discuss the upcoming solar eclipse!

The Art and Science of Mobile Apps

Have you ever thought about creating your own mobile app, but didn't know where to start? On Saturday, October 7, from 2-3 PM at the Heroes Regional Park Library, we will present the different types of apps used today and guide you through the process of brainstorming, planning, prototyping, and evaluating your app without writing a line of code.

Name Your Game for Adults: Classic Board, Card and Word Games

Remember when we used to play games with family and friends in person? Those days are back! On Monday, October 9, from 5:30-7:30 PM at the Velma Teague Librarywe will play some old favorite games and learn new ones. Rules and scorekeeping will be provided. Bring friends and family or meet new friends. Feel free to bring your own game to teach others. 

Sunday Afternoon of Music: West Valley Country Music Songwriters Showcase

On Sunday, October 15, from 2-4 PM at the Main Library, the West Valley Country Music Association will choose the winner of the fifth annual Songwriters Showcase. The top 15 songwriters will perform their submitted song for both a general audience and three professional songwriter judges, who will select three winners. Bring the family and come enjoy the show!

Bat Boxes for Tweens & Teens

Kick off the fall season by assembling and decorating your very own bat box on Monday, October 2, from 6-8 PM at the Foothills Library! Learn about these amazing animals and build them a safe place to rest. Ages 10-18.

Teen STEAM Lab: Build a Ghost Detector!

Detect invisible physical fields and substances with your own ghost meter! Get a glimpse into the fascinating physics of conductivity, discover how semiconductors work, and learn what it takes to be a ghost hunter on Thursday, October 12, from 5:30-7 PM at the Heroes Regional Park Library. Ages 12-18.

Monster Mugshots! 

Test your knowledge of famous movie monsters and cryptids by correctly identifying the lineup of creatures featured on the Velma Teague Library Teen Zone bulletin board from Monday, October 2, through Tuesday, October 31. Write your guesses on the official entry form and submit it at the Public Service Desk. All submissions with the correct answers will be entered into a drawing to receive a skateboard prize pack! Ages 12-18.

Fat Bear Week @ Main

Celebrate Fat Bear Week at the library, where all bears are winners, but only one true champion will emerge. Learn all about bears and their behavior, the science of hibernation, and healthy natural ecosystems. Check out our bulletin board and pick up your bear bracket at the Main Library Youth Department from Tuesday, October 3, through Thursday, October 12, to choose who you think will come out on top as the weighty winner!

STEAM Kids Club: Spooky Tangrams

Unlock the secrets of shapes and the magic of math on Wednesday, October 4, from 1:30-2:30 PM at the Heroes Regional Park Library. Geometry and creativity combine as kids aged 6-12 embark on a spine-chilling journey to create eerie art using tangrams.

GHost Scavenger Hunt!

Kids and their families can join the hunt for seven lost ghosts that are haunting the Velma Teague Library Youth Department! Pick up a clue sheet a the Public Service Desk from Tuesday, October 10, through Tuesday, October 31, and search for the ghosts on your own or with your entire family as a team. When you have located all the ghosts, return to the Public Service Desk to claim a special prize! Happy ghost hunting!

AArt Is for Everyone: Tissue Paper Collage

Join us for fun, expressive art making on Thursday, October 12, from 6-7 PM at the Foothills Library! This monthly multigenerational program encourages everyone to try something new. Bring clothes you can get messy in, and we'll bring the supplies. This month, we will use tissue paper to make vibrant collages. All ages are welcome, including families and multigenerational community members
