Governor Healey, Lieutenant Governor Driscoll Hit the Road to Highlight Proposed Transportation Investments

Events across the state will highlight Governor Healey’s proposals to improve roads and bridges, modernize public transportation

Brockton - The Healey-Driscoll Administration today announced that Governor Maura Healey, Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll, and Transportation Secretary Monica Tibbits-Nutt will be hitting the road and visiting communities across the state to highlight their comprehensive plans for major upgrades to the state’s transportation infrastructure. In the coming weeks, administration officials will visit MBTA facilities, regional transit authorities, roads and bridges, training facilities and other key locations to highlight to ways in which the Governor’s $8 billion plan and Chapter 90 bill will improve roads and bridges and modernize public transportation.

“Every day in Massachusetts, millions of residents and visitors rely on our transportation system to get to work, school, doctor’s appointments, the grocery store – everywhere,” said Governor Maura Healey. “Our $8 billion plan and Chapter 90 bill provide a comprehensive plan for making major upgrades to our roads, bridges and public transportation. We look forward to getting out into communities across the state to show the ways in which our administration is refusing to kick the can down the road when it comes to the building the transportation system that the people of Massachusetts deserve.”

“We owe it to our residents and businesses to dedicate the resources necessary to ensure that our transportation system is world-class and delivering the safe, reliable and accessible service we deserve,” said Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll. “Our proposals provide the roadmap to get there – and we’re excited to telling residents across the state exactly how it will improve their lives.”

“The Healey Driscoll Administration is transforming transportation with an $8 billion plan aimed at providing additional resources to municipalities, expanding public transit, increasing travel options, and investing in critical infrastructure needs,” said Transportation Secretary and CEO Monica Tibbits-Nutt. “The administration’s plan includes bold steps to invest in roads, bridges, culverts, regional public transit, the MBTA, and initiatives designed to help people reach their destinations safely, sustainably, and on time. I look forward to meeting residents in the community during the Transportation Funding Road Show, as I am always grateful for opportunities to spend time with those who care about transportation and recognize that effective transportation systems are essential for our communities to thrive.”

On Thursday, Governor Healey, Lieutenant Governor Driscoll and Secretary Tibbits-Nutt will visit the Brockton Area Transportation’s (BAT) Intermodal Transportation Centre, which serves as the transit hub for the South Shore and Greater Brockton areas. They will tour the bus hub to thank workers, view BAT buses, and greet riders. Governor Healey’s transportation plan proposes $110 million for Regional Transit Authorities like BAT, including $66 million for formula-based transit improvements, $30 million for fare free service and $10 million to facilitate interconnectivity between RTAs.
