From: Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry

Baton Rouge, LA - On October 01, 2024, Governor Jeff Landry signed an executive order seeking to promote and protect free speech for all higher institutions across Louisiana. Freedom of speech is an inalienable right for all Americans, and it must be defended.

On college campuses in Louisiana and throughout the country, we have seen students attacked while promoting their conservative clubs, students silenced out of fear of academic retribution for sharing their beliefs, and speakers threatened and canceled by those who do not agree with their ideas.

“For years, I have met students from across our state who have expressed concern about the direction of free speech on our college campuses. Students should never have to fear retribution from their teachers or classmates because they do not agree on speech or politics. Today’s Executive Order is a step in the right direction to cultivate a culture on our campuses where open dialogue between all viewpoints is prevalent and protected,”said Governor Jeff Landry.
