From: Minnesota Governor Timothy James WalzST. PAUL, MN - Governor Tim Walz today authorized the Minnesota National Guard to provide public safety support for the 2024 Republican National Convention. The convention, which will be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from July 15 through July 18, has been designated as a national special security event by the United States Department of Homeland Security due to the scale of security operations required.
“I am immensely grateful to our Minnesota National Guard members,” said Governor Walz. “Their willingness to step up, whether in Minnesota or across the nation, is critical. Their support in Wisconsin will help ensure a safe, secure event.”
Wisconsin’s local, county, and state governments have requested additional resources to host a safe and secure event. Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has declared a state of emergency and requested the support of the Minnesota National Guard under the Emergency Management Assistance Compact to supplement local resources.
The executive order is effective immediately and will remain in effect until resources are no longer required, or until July 21, whichever occurs first.
