A Hammond man got a 9-year split prison term Friday after his 5-month-old daughter was hurt so badly in 2019 that she developed cerebral palsy and requires lifetime medical care. Eric Smith, 28, pleaded guilty in September for neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury, a Level 3 felony.
