Taking Manhattan is out!
We know you are all fans of our friend Russell Shorto - and we are pleased to share that his new book, Taking Manhattan, was published this week and he is making the rounds. Check out all of his book tour stops here.
Taking Manhattan tells the riveting story of the birth of New York City as a center of capitalism and pluralism, a foundation from which America would rise. It also shows how the paradox of New York’s origins - boundless opportunity coupled with subjugation and displacement - reflects America’s promise and failure to this day.
Each week during Women's History Month we will be featuring profiles of Women in Preservation
Jackie Saves Grand Central Station!
As First Lady, Jackie Kennedy took on a major restoration project at the White House. She then helped to preserve Washington D. C.'s Lafayette Square, as well as parts of her hometown, Newport, RI. Then she set her sights on saving Grand Central Station in her new home town, New York City.
To read more about how Jackie fought for and saved this tremendous landmark, read here.
