From: Hower House MuseumNote From The Guild President
As I write this, our dutiful staff is literally up to their elbows in cleaning our beautiful mansion! We will soon be back to our regular tour schedule and calling for volunteers. I’m encouraging all those who volunteered in November and December to please sign up to help this Spring. Our hours are Friday and Saturday noon to 3:00 pm.
This holiday season attendance was the highest it’s been in years! We are anticipating the trend to continue this Spring with a new exhibit on the horizon and an ever growing online presence!
Our Guild board is also growing! I would like to welcome Dianne Kauffman and Janet Haas. Dianne will head up our Garden committee and will be scheduling regular weeding and maintenance events this spring and summer. Janet will take Deb Thomas’s place as our recording secretary. We appreciate Deb’s long term commitment and service to our board. We hope to continue to see her helping in our Cellar Door Store Boutique.
Please check out the info about the upcoming book club authors, the pot luck soup and salad luncheon and stay abreast of all our activities by checking our website!
As always, thank you for your continued support!
~Ann Cousins
Note From The Director
Greetings to our HHM Guild members!
As always, it has been a busy few months during what must be the l-o-n-g-e-s-t winter on record! The holiday season went by so fast and since the New Year, our small staff has been hard at work with the annual cleaning and maintenance cycle at HHM. You become well acquainted with a collection when high up on a ladder or scaffold while cleaning walls, woodwork, handwashing or mending textiles. It has been a challenge, but I believe you will be happy with the result. We have a few tasks remaining but are now on the homestretch. Hope to see you all on or after our March 1 opening!
This year promises to be jam-packed with the types of events, exhibits, book clubs, tours, and occasions that keep the Hower Family’s legacy alive and make the HHM so memorable. Please plan to visit and get involved, won’t you? We look forward to seeing you soon.
~ Linda Bussey, Director

Please email [email protected] or call 330.972.6909 if you are interested and would like to sign up to host (greet and collect admission) or monitor (be accessible to the guests on each floor to assist with needs and/or questions). Three families with men gone to Civil War.
Three different stories.
Three different outcomes.
While cannons fired celebratory rounds at the depot in Massillon, Ohio, ordinary family life was savored page-by-delicious-page from the busy pen of Margaret Jackson Hardgrove.
Passing in the mail were letters of Lieut. John Henry Hardgrove, overflowing with adventure or misery deep in the sweltering South.
Letters were opened... history changed.
