From: High Point UniversityHigh Point, NC -- High Point University will honor hundreds of men and women who have served this country during its 14th Annual Veterans Day Celebration.
Grammy Award-winning singer Lee Greenwood, whose hit song “God Bless the USA” has become one of the nation’s most recognizable patriotic anthems, will give a special performance at the event. Featured speakers include HPU President Nido Qubein and retired U.S. Army four-star Gen. Dan K. McNeill. McNeill served as the commanding officer of the 40-nation International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan following a tour of duty as the commanding general of U.S. Forces Command.
“At High Point University, it is an honor to welcome the brave men and women who have fought for the freedoms that we enjoy to campus,” Qubein said. “This annual event gives our students an opportunity to show their appreciation for the sacrifices that these veterans made to defend our country.”
HPU’s Annual Veterans Day Celebration is believed to be the largest Veterans Day celebration on a college campus. More than 2,000 people attended last year’s Veterans Day Celebration, which marked the largest audience in the event’s history.
This year’s program will include a complimentary breakfast, a patriotic salute and a recognition of students who are leading initiatives to support veterans. The North Carolina Brass Band and the HPU Chamber Singers will provide patriotic music. HPU students will honor veterans with a celebratory welcome and a special gift.
As is tradition at the annual event, HPU will donate approximately 100 American flags to local nonprofits, schools and government buildings. In addition, the Qubein Arena and Conference Center features several patriotic displays that celebrate HPU’s commitment to God, family and country for veterans to enjoy.
HPU’s Annual Veterans Day Celebration is supported by the Sheriff Family Veterans Awareness Endowment, the MJ Hall and Jay Stobbs Leadership in Military and Veterans Awareness Endowment, David and Luke Greisler, D.H. Griffin Construction and River Landing at Sandy Ridge.
