Thursday, February 13, 2025

6pm - 8pm: Pluto Beer Dedication

The festival kicks off with the dedication of Mother Road Brewing Company’s Pluto-themed beer and a Pluto-themed Astronomy on Tap, both at Mother Road Brewing Company. This will be Mother Road’s fifth I-Heart-Pluto-themed beer.

5pm, 6pm, 7pm, 8pm: Strange New Worlds

Join us at the incredible rooftop Dark Sky Planetarium for a brand new show, debuting on February 14 during the 2025 I Heart Pluto Festival! This new show answers the big question: Are we alone in the universe? Enjoy a live presentation on the rooftop, where we will delve into the mysteries of planets beyond our solar system.

6pm - 9pm: Pluto Pub Crawl

Explore Flagstaff’s finest pubs, bars, and brewhouses - in the shape of the Pluto symbol! After receiving a map of all participating destinations, you’ll be turned loose to enjoy historic downtown alongside fellow Pluto-lovers, and custom-made Pluto drinks and specials at all the stops. Along the way, you’ll find astronomers giving science talks, answering questions, and more.

Lowell Observatory will be open with regular programming and special festival programming, such as face painting, tours, and special talks.

Extended Pluto History Tours

Location: Lowell Observatory - 1400 W Mars Hill Rd, Flagstaff, AZ 86001

5pm - 10pm: Night of Discovery at the Orpheum Theater

A Night of Discovery, on the evening of February 15 at the Orpheum Theater, is the keynote event of this year’s festival. This event is highlighted by a discussion with Adam Nimoy (son of actor Leonard Nimoy), New Horizons Mission to Pluto Principal Investigator Dr. Alan Stern, and comet-hunting legend David Levy. David Eicher, Editor in Chief of Astronomy magazine, will moderate the discussion. Doors open at 6pm and programming is followed with a book signing by the special guests.. 1pm - 3pm: “The Most Human” - Adam Nimoy

KNAU Science Reporter Melissa Sevigny will host a discussion with Adam Nimoy in Lowell Observatory’s new Astronomy Discovery Center about his most recent book, “The Most Human,” which delves into his complex relationship with his iconic father, Leonard Nimoy of Star Trek. Nimoy will sign books after this program for guests.

3pm - 5pm: For the Love of Spock Documentary - Introduced by Adam Nimoy

Enjoy a one-time showing at the brand new Lowell Universe Theater, For the Love of Spock is a 2016 American documentary film about actor Leonard Nimoy directed by his son Adam Nimoy. Enjoy a very special introduction by Adam Nimoy himself!

Included with General Admission, enjoy a special exhibit hall filled with vendors, brews, science activities, and more at the “Pluto’s Birthday Bash.”
Located in the Great Planetary Hall, 2nd floor of the Astronomy Discovery Center.

Younger participants will have a separate room with kid-friendly activities and face painting at “Pluie’s Birthday Bash”.
