A reminder that while JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the 50 Plus Department at 913-826-2975 for space availability.

Here’s a sampling of programs JCPRD has coming up for the week of Dec. 24-30:

Dec. 26, 27, 28, & 29 (4 separate sessions) - Museum: Kids' Day Out (Ages 6-10)

Johnson County Museum at Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., $38 per person, $30.40 for museum members

Come have fun when school is out! Discover history through hands-on activities and exploration of KidScape and museum exhibits, play games, and enjoy down time. Bring a lunch, snacks, and water bottle and dress for the weather - we will go outside if we can. This program is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but you may drop off and pick up at any time. Five-year-old children can be enrolled if currently attending kindergarten. Tuesday, Dec. 26, session, activity number 31665. Wednesday, Dec. 27, session, activity number 31666. Dec. 26 - Theatre: Play in a Day (Ages 8-12)

Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, 9 a.m. to 4 a.m., $75 per person, $83 nonresidents

In just one day, your child will unleash their creativity, work as a team, and perform in a magical play they create themselves. From storytelling, character development, group rehearsals, and fun theatre games, they'll experience the joy of theatre and boost their confidence. Don't miss this enchanting adventure! Participants will create their own superheroes and villains, complete with unique powers and thrilling backstories. Kids will devise a thrilling plot where their heroes and villains clash in an epic battle for justice. Through imaginative storytelling, collaborative teamwork, and action-packed scenes, they will bring their heroic tale to life. This program concludes with a sharing at 3 p.m. Activity number 32648.

Dec. 26-29 - JCPRD Broadway Workshops: Shakespeare Sings! (Ages 8-12)

Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Tuesday through Friday, Overland Park, 9 a.m. to 4 a.m., 4 sessions $211 per person, $232 nonresidents

NEW! Step into the enchanting world of "Shakespeare Sings" – a captivating JCPRD Broadway Workshop designed for young talents. Unleash your inner star as we transport you to the dazzling realm of Broadway, where music and Shakespearean magic collide. Our camp will feature songs from timeless classics like "Kiss Me Kate" and the iconic "West Side Story" plus the modern sensation "And Juliet". And if that's not enough, we'll also journey to the heart of the savannah with "The Lion King." Shakespeare Sings is the perfect opportunity for young performers to shine on stage, gain confidence, and create lifelong memories. Activity number 33258.

Dec. 27 (3 separate sessions) - Private Group Experience: Scandal in the Schoolhouse - A Historic Escape Room (Ages 10 & Older – at least one member of the party must be 18 or Older)

Lanesfield Historic Site, 18745 S. Dillie Road, Edgerton, times & dates vary, $80 per group of up to 8, $64 for museum members

Solve the mystery of the missing schoolmarm at this escape-room style adventure! Begin in the visitor center with a costumed schoolteacher and head off to an actual 1904 schoolhouse to solve the mystery. You will learn about the local history of Lanesfield along the way. Available sessions on Dec. 27:  11 a.m. to Noon, activity number 31738; 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., activity number 31739, and 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. session, activity number 31740.

Okun Fieldhouse at Mid-America West Sports Complex, 20200 Johnson Dr., Shawnee, 6 to 10 p.m., Tuesdays or Thursdays, $235 per team

Okun Fieldhouse at Mid-America West Sports Complex, 20200 Johnson Dr., Shawnee, 6 to 10 p.m., Tuesdays or Thursdays, $450 per team

Dec. 27-28 - Basketball: New Century Fieldhouse Winter Break Camp (Ages 7-14)

New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway, near Gardner, Wednesday and Thursday, 9 to 11:30 a.m., 2 sessions, $60 per person, $65 nonresidents

Get in the game by participating in this two-day Livin’ the Dream winter break basketball camp held at New Century Fieldhouse. Girls and boys in grades 2 - 8 can participate in the camp and will be split up into groups by grade and ability level as best the coaches can. Livin’ the Dream camp participants will build self-confidence by learning and working on the basic fundamentals of the game of basketball. The camp will focus on speed, agility, shooting technique, ball handling, rebounding, offense/defensive footwork, finishing moves, and much more. All skill levels welcome. Professional instruction by the LTD coaching staff which consists of high school coaches, and current and former college and/or professional players. Dec. 27-29 - Computers: Roblox™ Studio Program & Development Camp (Ages 9-15)

Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee, Wednesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon, 3 sessions, $140 per person, $154 nonresidents

Calling all Roblox™ users! Join in with millions of gamers and immerse yourself in your own 3D world! ROBLOX Studio is a 3D-based program that uses physics, LUA programming, and individual creativity to build a world around you, and your avatar - unlike any other software. This course will guide students through concepts such as beginner physics, LUA programming, and game development. Students in this course will build and publish their multi-player game to share with friends and family! No refunds after first day of camp. Dec. 27-29 - Volleyball: Okun Winter Break Camp (Grades 3-8)

Okun Fieldhouse at Mid-America West Sports Complex, 20200 Johnson Dr., Shawnee, Wednesday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to Noon, 3 sessions, $70 per person, $77 nonresidents

Get some experience with Coach Gwenn Pike! Practice serving, passing, setting, and hitting in small group drills and scrimmage-like play. Participants will be divided into groups based on age and ability. Each participant will receive a camp T-shirt. Activity number 32486.

Dec. 27-29 - Computers: Robotic Battle Bots (Ages 9-15)

Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee, Wednesday through Friday, 1 to 4 p.m., 3 sessions, $140 per person, $154 nonresidents

This course offers hands-on opportunities to build and program robots. Working in small teams, students will design robotics systems to compete in fun real-world activities. Each day will bring a new challenge, and your team's robot will have to morph to better adapt and compete. Students will compete in the battle bots competition at the end of the camp to prove their robot is the best. Dec. 27-29 - Volleyball: New Century Fieldhouse Winter Camp (Grades 3-8)

New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway, near Gardner, Wednesday through Friday, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., 3 sessions, $65 per person, $70 nonresidents

Get in the game by participating in this three-day winter break volleyball camp.. Girls and boys in grades 3 - 8 can participate in the camp and will be split up into groups by grade and ability level as best as the coaches can. Coaches from KC Fire Volleyball Club will run the camp. Serving, passing, setting, hitting, fun drills and games will all be covered. Each participant will receive a T-shirt. Activity number 31262. Dec. 27-29 (2 separate programs) - Basketball: Okun Winter Break Camp  (Grades K-3 and 4-8)

Get in the game with JCPRD basketball camps at Okun Fieldhouse! Players will participate in drills, group activities, and scrimmages offering group and one-on-one instruction. Players will practice shooting, passing, ball handling, offense, and defense. K-3 session 1 to 2:30 p.m., activity number 32484. Dec. 29 - Holiday Event: Ring in the New Year (Ages 50 & Older)

Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood Dr., Roeland Park, Noon to 2 p.m., $17 per person, $19 nonresidents

Let’s celebrate the New Year! Enjoy six games of bingo, plus fun games and activities and a catered lunch. Cost of admission covers food and staff time to administer the bingo program. No additional charge for bingo. Activity number 32067.
