Dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our community, Johnson County Park and Recreation District offers year-round program, activities, and special events for all ages!

A reminder that while JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the 50 Plus Department at 913-826-2975 for space availability.

Here’s a sampling of programs JCPRD has coming up for the week of May 21-27:

May 22, 26 - Gymnastics: Indoor Playground (Ages 1-5)

Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee, 11 a.m. to noon, $5 per person

Indoor Playground incorporates fun-filled playtime with obstacle courses and play gym equipment. Children up to 5 years of age will have the opportunity to focus their energy while developing strength and agility. Parent/legal guardian will be asked to sign a waiver and an adult must be present with their child at all times. Activity number 28971.  Friday session on May 26, activity number 28975. May 24 deadline - play begins June 4 - Soccer: New Century Fieldhouse Men’s Summer League (Ages 18 & Older)

New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway, near Gardner, Sundays, game times range from 2 to 10 p.m., 8 games, $650 per team

Games are played Sunday afternoon and evening. League play has five field players plus the goalie. Activity number 29496. Find the required Adult Soccer Waiver form here. For questions, call 913-826-2850.

May 24 - Adventure Walk: Blue River Parkway and Minor Park Trail (Ages 50 & Older)

Departs from Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., $25 per person, $27 nonresidents

Spend some time in nature on this wooded, natural trail with moderate inclines near the Blue River. Afterwards, we will go out to lunch in town. Lunch costs on your own. Activity number 26811.

May 24 - Early Learning: Silly Sensory Walk (Ages 1-4 with an Adult)

Meadowbrook Park - Shelter #1, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., $4 per person, $5 nonresidents

Explore the park with a group and find fun and tactile ways to interact along the way! Limit of two children per adult. Activity number 26819.

May 25 - Nature Outings: Nature Rx - Birds and Blooms (Ages 50 & Older)

Departs from Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., $30 per person, $32 nonresidents

NEW! Travel to Burr Oak Woods in Blue Springs, Mo., to enrich your life with a little time outdoors. Identify birds and flowers during this sensory activity, designed to enhance you connection to nature. Activity number 26708.

March 26 - Breakfast with Grandparents (Ages 2 to 5 with an Adult)

Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., $8 per person, $9 nonresidents

Whether you call them Grandma, Grandpa, Mimi, Papa, Nana, PopPop…or something different, come introduce them to us and have some fun! Breakfast snacks and drinks will be served. Activity number 26886.

May 27 - Gymnastics: Indoor Open Gym (Ages 4-17)

Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., $6 per person

Head to Mill Creek Activity Center for 60 minutes of unstructured, supervised gym time on all gymnastics apparatuses, trampoline, and our loose foam pit. A great opportunity for program participants to safely work on skills outside of class! Activity number 29418. Call 913-826-2950 for more information.
