AUGUSTA, ME – Following the arraignment of Representative Lucas Lanigan on Class B felony aggravated domestic violence and Class D misdemeanor domestic violence charges, Maine Democratic Party Vice Chair Imke Schessler-Jandreau issued the following statement:

“After reviewing all of the evidence, law enforcement officers, the York County District Attorney’s office, and a grand jury of his peers have charged Mr. Lanigan with felony aggravated domestic violence, one of the state’s most serious domestic violence charges. There is no place for domestic violence in our society and I call on Republican leaders to join the widespread calls for Mr. Lanigan’s immediate resignation.”

Representative Lanigan was elected by only one vote in a heavily Republican district where nearly a quarter of all ballots cast were received before news broke of his warrant and arrest.
