Boston, MA - The Massachusetts Republican Party strongly opposes Mayor Wu’s recent declaration that she will refuse to cooperate with federal authorities in deportation efforts involving criminal illegal immigrants. While Mayor Wu claims her top priority is the safety of residents, her decision to ignore federal ICE detainers for illegal immigrants with criminal records-whether in their country of origin or in the United States-endangers Boston residents. This policy not only jeopardizes public safety but also sends a dangerous message that Boston is a sanctuary for those seeking to evade federal law enforcement.:

MassGOP Chair Amy Carnevale responded to Michelle Wu’s recent statements, declaring: “If the FBI, DEA, ATF, or any other federal agency requested Boston’s assistance in identifying and arresting a criminal responsible for crimes, the city would cooperate. Yet, Boston and Massachusetts as a whole are actively preventing local authorities from working with ICE to apprehend known criminals simply because they are here illegally. Democrats’ preference towards pandering to their most extreme base is putting residents at risk. This policy is out of control and completely nonsensical.”
