MassGOP Stands Firm in Support of Legislative Audit

Government and Politics

Boston, MA - The Massachusetts Republican Party stands in full support of State Auditor Diana DiZoglio’s mandated authority to audit the legislature. An overwhelming 72% of Massachusetts voters approved granting the State Auditor this power. Any attempt by the legislature to backpedal or evade an independent audit blatantly disregards the will of the voters.

“Transparency and accountability are non-negotiable,” said MassGOP Chair Amy Carnevale. “The legislature must honor the clear mandate of the people and ensure this critical audit is conducted by the Auditor herself, as intended by voters. We recognize that some elected Republicans supported the recent rule change as a temporary measure until the law takes effect in January. That does not change the fact that Republicans stand united in their commitment to enacting the law exactly as it was written in the ballot question. We hope that the Democratic supermajority resists any attempt to subvert democracy by challenging the ballot question in the courts. Anything less is a betrayal of public trust.”
