From: Massillon MuseumVisit the Massillon Museum on Saturday, February 1, for a free Do the Mu workshop. Instructor Allison Smith Hernandez will teach participants how to make woven heart-shaped baskets using paper. All ages and ability levels will be welcome and all supplies will be provided. Guests can drop in anytime between 12:00 and 2:00 p.m.
Allison Hope Smith Hernandez, an Ohio native, is an artist and arts administrator. She is a double alumnus of Kent State University (Kent, Ohio) holding a BFA (2014) and MFA (2018) in studio art with a concentration in textiles. She currently works as associate director of advancement and external relations for the College of the Arts at Kent State University. Smith previously served as the operations and digital media manager for FRONT International: Cleveland Triennial for Contemporary Art in Cleveland, Ohio, as the graduate assistant to the director of the Kent State University School of Art Collection and Galleries, and as museum assistant for Massillon Museum. Smith has exhibited in Ohio, as well as in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Muncie, Indiana; Savannah, Georgia; and New York City. One of Smith’s weavings was displayed from 2021 to 2023 in the US Ambassador to Burkina Faso's residence in Ouagadougou.
Do the Mu is a free monthly hands-on intergenerational outlet for creativity. The Massillon Museum receives operating support from the Ohio Arts Council, ArtsinStark, and the citizens of Massillon. This workshop is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
