"What the Birds Saw": Oil pastels & watercolors
Born in New York City, Pamela Sztybel holds a BA from the New School University and an MFA from the New York Academy of Art. She has won a variety of national and international fellowships and taught workshops around the country. She has also exhibited widely in solo and group shows and her work can be found in the US Department of State Art in embassies, as well as numerous private and corporate collections.
Previously, Sztybel focused on elegant tonal landscapes, but for about the last seven years her oil pastel on paper work has been centered on flowers and vegetation, freely interpreted as abstractions. Influenced by Henri Matisse and Pierre Bonnard, Sztybel lets the color radiating from flowers drive her interpretation of botanicals.
