From: Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves

JACKSON, MS - Governor Tate Reeves today announced that Mississippi set multiple new records in July for employment numbers in the state. First, the state reached a new record low unemployment rate of 2.7%. Additionally, total non-farm employment reached a record high with 1,192,200 jobs. Furthermore, at only 33,443 Mississippians, the state reached a record low for the number of unemployed individuals.

“Yesterday, Mississippi made history in education, today it’s our economy,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “What we’re witnessing in Mississippi is unprecedented success that is strengthening our economy, creating high-paying jobs, and improving the lives of Mississippians across our state. We’re doing the commonsense, conservative things that are proven to deliver results, and we’re not stopping anytime soon. Thank you to all the hardworking Mississippians who made these historic achievements possible.”

The news follows a series of wins in Mississippi including the announcement that multiple Mississippi metropolitan areas had nation-leading lows in their unemployment rate. Furthermore, the state secured the largest economic development project in state history - a $10 billion investment from Amazon Web Services that will bring 1,000 new high-paying tech jobs to the Jackson metro area. Additionally, this year, the largest payroll commitment in state history was announced - a $1.9 billion investment from a joint venture between Accelera by Cummins, Daimler Truck, and PACCAR that will create 2,000 jobs with an average annual salary of approximately $66,000.
