Nikki Fried Re-Elected Chair of the Florida Democratic Party

Government and Politics

January 25, 2025

On Jan 25th, the State Executive Committee of the Florida Democratic Party met to elect new officers for the next four years. With 78% of votes cast on the first ballot, Nikki Fried has been re-elected Chair of the Florida Democratic Party.

“I’m honored to serve another term as Chair of the Florida Democratic Party,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried. “I thank the members of the State Executive Committee for the faith they have placed in me to continue to lead the Florida Democratic Party. Over the next four years, Florida Democrats will continue to organize, mobilize and hold Republicans accountable. We’ll focus on winning local races, push our state legislators to pass policies that support hard-working Floridians and make our state more affordable for all, and stand up to Republicans in Washington who want to take Florida’s extreme policies nationwide. We’re just getting started, and we won’t back down.”

When Nikki Fried was first elected Chair in February of 2023, she committed to rebuilding the party following heavy losses in the 2022 election. She focused on year-round organizing, building a long-term party infrastructure, and providing support to candidates at every level. Despite a national rightward trend in 2024, Florida Democrats re-elected Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, fought back against Moms for Liberty school board members, and elected candidates at the local level across the state.

Prior to her service as chair, Nikki Fried was the Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services from 2019-2023 - Florida’s only statewide elected Democrat and the first woman elected to that office in the South. As Commissioner, she helped develop the state hemp industry, stood up for LGBTQ+ equality, fought for clean water, and improved the gun licensing process.

Born and raised in Miami, Nikki Fried is the former Student Body President and triple graduate of the University of Florida, where she received her Bachelor’s in Political Science, Master’s in Political Campaigning, and Juris Doctor degrees.

The rest of Jan 25th’s State Executive Committee Meeting will be dedicated to electing a new First Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and members of the Democratic National Committee. The final election results will be shared in a press release following the conclusion of Jan 25th’s meeting.
