Congressional candidates John Lee and Drew Johnson co-sign Donald Trump and Speaker Johnson’s Project 2025 plan to stab Nevada’s seniors in the back, eliminating Social Security, Medicare, and raising the retirement age

On Oct 5th, the Nevada State Democratic Party held a press conference with Chair Daniele Monroe-Moreno and Representatives Susie Lee and Steven Horsford to hold GOP Speaker Mike Johnson, John Lee, and Drew Johnson accountable for their dangerous embrace of Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda, which would cut critical benefits for Nevada seniors, including Social Security and Medicare.

NV-03 candidate Drew Johnson has called Social Security a “failed policy” that turns beneficiaries into a burden on our economy, and one of his key priorities is raising the retirement age, cutting Medicare, and slashing Social Security by 30%. NV-04 candidate John Lee stated he would “follow the Trump [Project 2025] agenda” which would decimate Social Security for Nevada’s seniors.

Mike Johnson will travel to Las Vegas on Monday to fundraise with Drew Johnson and John Lee.

“If Project 2025 were adopted, it would roll back certain protections for seniors, it would cut benefits for those on Medicare, it would raise the retirement age for those on Social Security,” said Congressman Steven Horsford. “How long do people have to work to be able to retire in dignity? Republicans are not concerned about that because they are really only concerned with their ultra wealthy donors, corporations, and special interests, not the people of Nevada.”

“This is an extremely personal issue for me. My mother suffered a heart attack right before she turned sixty-five,” said Congresswoman Susie Lee. “My father had lost his job at the age of fifty-six. They both had pre-existing conditions, this was before the Affordable Care Act, which by the way, both of our opponents would like to repeal as well. When she suffered her heart attack, because she had pre-existing conditions, they almost lost their house because they had no health insurance.”

“Our seniors are the backbone of the state and spent a lifetime lifting Nevada up, having worked and contributed to these programs over their whole life,” said Nevada State Democratic Party Chair Daniele Monroe-Moreno. To tear the rug out from under them, leaving them behind, showcases the critical difference in values of our Democratic Party and the extremist MAGA Republican Party: Democrats don’t turn our backs on our seniors.”
