NV Dems Statement on Donald Trump’s Harmful Tariffs

Nevada State Democratic Party Executive Director Hilary Barrett released the following statement on Trump’s tariffs going into effect:

“Donald Trump’s reckless across the board tariffs will have devastating impacts on both Nevada’s tourism and trade industries. Canada is Nevada’s largest trade partner and 1.4 million Canadians account for about a third of all international travelers to Las Vegas. Additionally, an independent study estimates that these tariffs will result in an average effective pay cut of nearly $1,000 for U.S. households. This comes at a time when Nevada’s economy is already suffering under Joe Lombardo — experiencing the highest unemployment rate in the nation and lagging behind the country in job growth.

“Donald Trump’s indiscriminate tariffs on Nevada’s closest trading partners are a tax on Nevadans and will lead to higher costs and less money in people’s pockets. Lombardo’s refusal to stand up to Trump and demand that these harsh and devastating tariffs be paused, or at least more strategically implemented, will result in real harm being done to Nevada’s economy.”
