Barbara Anna Mangiacopra, age 86 of Derby, beloved wife of the late Frank (Cheech) Mangiacopra, entered eternal rest peacefully on February 15, 2025. Born and raised in Bridgeport, CT on November 15, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Mary Petrino Rossi and one of nine children. Barbara also raised her family in Bridgeport and resided there for many years before moving to Shelton/Derby to be closer to her son and family in 2012. She took pride in her career working in the restaurant industry, making many lifelong friends. During retirement, she studied floral design and worked as a florist to occupy some of her time. Barbara always had a keen sense of fashion, taking great pride in her lady-like appearance and her ability to accessorize. She always carried herself with elegance and grace. Her daughter-in-law and granddaughters learned a lot from her throughout the years. Cooking her favorite Italian meals (especially her Sunday gravy), hosting holidays and family gatherings were just some of her life’s greatest joys. She shared a unique bond with her grandchildren, often hosting sleepovers, trips to Florida, Cape Cod, and even attended one of her granddaughter’s bachelorette party in Nashville. Everyone loved being around her and will forever be remembered as a beautiful, kind, yet will tell you like it is lady. She is survived by her devoted son and his wife, Frank and Karen Mangiacopra of Shelton and Louis Mangiacopra of FL; cherished grandchildren, Vincent Mangiacopra and wife Kelsie of Norwalk, Christine Sarrazien and husband Michael of Shelton and Jennifer Plante and husband Jason of Shelton; precious great-grandchildren who she simply adored -Owen, Shelby, Justin, Jack and Milo; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband of 57 years, she was predeceased by nine siblings and a dear friend, Jeanette Nadrizny. She will be greatly missed by many.
A private celebration of life service will be held in the future. The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia, is in care of arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
