John Antonelli, age 89 of Ansonia, died peacefully on February 4, 2025 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family. Born in Massachusetts on April 8, 1935, he was orphaned as an infant and raised by foster families. As a teenager, he made his way to California and was fortunate to find employment with Boeing where he was trained as an aviation mechanic. Missing the east coast and change of seasons, Mr. Antonelli made his way to Connecticut in 1955 and was quickly hired at Sikorsky Aircraft due to his experience at Boeing. He spent several years working in the Bridgeport facility before moving to the Stratford facility, until his retirement in 1999. Throughout his 44 year career at Sikorsky, Mr. Antonelli had the opportunity to meet Igor Sikorsky many times and shared stories of their conversations with family and acquaintances. He was a lifelong Harley Davidson enthusiast, riding a motorcycle, long before he could drive a car. Mr. Antonelli attended bike rallies in Sturgis, SD, Laconia, NH and regularly cruised to Marcus Dairy, Danbury, CT every Sunday with his daughter riding by his side. He is survived his beloved daughter, Margaretann “Maggie” Antonelli and her companion, Craig Kulsar of Ansonia. Funeral services are private.
