Katherine “Kay” Alberta Nelson, age 81 of Shelton, beloved wife of the late Jack Nelson, died peacefully on February 13, 2025 at Griffin Hospital with her family by her side. Born on July 10, 1943 in Canton, OH she was the daughter of the late Byron Clarence Phelps and Betty Jane Bennett Phelps. Mrs. Nelson was a 1961 graduate of Andrew Ward High School, Fairfield and a longtime resident of Shelton.

She enjoyed camping every summer at Hammonasset State Park, when she wasn’t at the beach or in the pool . . . she always found a way to soak up the sun. Reading, gardening and hosting holiday dinners brought her so much joy; along with her special talent for quilting, knitting and sewing. She will be long remembered for her special love for her family and for her pets.

Mrs. Nelson is survived by her devoted children, Karen Nelson of West Haven, Thomas Nelson of Shelton, Donald Nelson of Derby, and Kimberly Nelson of Shelton; cherished grandchildren, Michael Glance, Sarah Glance and Danielle Nelson all of Shelton; sister, Linda Eastwood of Stratford; cousin, Debbie Phelps of Torrington; dear friend, Sheila Ackley of Bridgeport; niece, Christina Koskinas of Fairfield, and nephews, Jamie Eastwood of Austin, TX & John Eastwood of Pittsburg, PA.

A private celebration of life service will be held this summer on Hammonasset Beach. The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia is in care of arrangements.
