Bay Head - The Ocean County Library is finalizing plans to serve patrons of the Bay Head Reading Center when the building at 136 Meadow Avenue returns to the Bay Head School District on July 1.

The Reading Center’s final day of operation at 136 Meadow Avenue is Saturday, June 17, closing at 2:00 pm.

The Ocean County Library will offer Bay Head Express library services at Borough Hall, 83 Bridge Avenue beginning in July.

Express services available include ordering, pick-up and drop off of library books and materials, library cards issued and renewed and a collection of popular books and magazines.

During the relocation, library patrons are welcome to arrange in advance for pickup of items being held for them at any of the Library’s other locations by calling (732) 349-6200.

Patrons who opt not to designate an alternate pickup location can collect items on hold at the Library’s Point Pleasant Borough Branch, 834 Beaver Dam Road, (732) 295-1555. Items can be returned to any OCL branch.

Ocean County Library Director Susan Quinn credited Mayor Bill Curtis for coming up with the creative solution to provide library services at Borough Hall.

“It has been our pleasure to serve the residents of Bay Head by sharing space at the Meadow Avenue location with the Bay Head School for the past 40 years,” said Quinn “but we understand that the education of the children of the community must be the highest priority.”

Quinn said that the library explored options for relocation in Bay Head but when nothing was practicable and the moving deadline fast approaching, Mayor Curtis offered the library space in the borough hall.

“The Ocean County Library is grateful to Mayor Curtis for his support and it is our privilege to continue providing residents of Bay Head with library services at a convenient location in the borough.” said Quinn.

“The Ocean County Library Commission would like to thank the Bay Head Borough Committee members for helping us establish a convenient place for Bay Head Express,” said Library Commission Chair Tim McDonald. “We will keep working with local officials and County Commissioners to find a permanent home for the Bay Head Reading Center.”
