From: State Historical Society of North DakotaOpening Day Activities Planned at Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site
Fort Abercrombie, N.D. - Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site will open May 27 with summer hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Labor Day, Sept. 4.
On opening day, visitors can experience historical military training drills from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. by the 5th Minnesota Infantry Company D reenactment unit. The unit will present a special program on the fort grounds at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The 5th Minnesota Infantry Company D portrays the life and times of soldiers serving at the fort during the battles and siege of Fort Abercrombie in 1862. The public is welcome to participate in the drills to learn about life at the fort from 1858 to 1877.
Also featured on opening day will be Candace Simar, author of the “Abercrombie Trail” series, signing books from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The gallery, bookstore, and gift shop will be open. Educational guided tours of the site will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Fort Abercrombie is a state historic site managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota. Summer hours are daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults and $3 for youth.
