McLaughlin Academy of Excellence will host a celebration on Tuesday (Sept. 12) to recognize students enrolled within its newest career-readiness program.

More than 100 students are currently enrolled within the Duke Energy Academy. Through this program, students are earning technical knowledge and occupation-specific skills necessary to prepare them for further education and careers within the energy industry.

The Duke Energy Academy features career technical education (CTE) courses as well as dual enrollment and on-the-job training opportunities.

McLaughlin Academy of Excellence will host a reception and ceremony on Tuesday (Sept. 12) to recognize the inaugural students of this program. The event begins at 4 p.m. and will be held on the school’s campus, 800 South 4th St. in Lake Wales.

The Duke Energy Academy launched this school year and is available to McLaughlin students in grades 7 through 10. The program offers two pathways: Business Management Analysis and Electrical Technician.

The Business Management Analysis pathway prepares students for:

- Corporate Leadership
- Customer Service
- Call Center Training

The Electrical Technician pathway prepares students for:

Renewable Energy
Line Workers
