Oklahoma City, OK – President Donald Trump’s abrupt freeze on federal funds has thrown Oklahoma’s economy and essential services into immediate jeopardy. With 40% of Oklahoma’s revenue coming from federal funding, this decision poses a direct threat to our schools, infrastructure, and critical programs serving our most vulnerable communities.
“This is what happens when dangerous rhetoric becomes action,” said Alicia Andrews, Chair of the Oklahoma Democratic Party. “For years, we’ve heard reckless political threats to cut off federal support, and now those threats have turned into real harm for working families, children, and seniors in Oklahoma. From public schools and healthcare to programs supporting veterans and low-income families, federal funding keeps our state running. Cutting off these resources overnight is not just irresponsible - it’s dangerous.”
Oklahoma’s public schools, which rely on federal funding for vital programs such as special education, school meals, and rural education initiatives, now face immediate uncertainty. Additionally, programs like Medicaid, food assistance, and housing support for low-income families are in peril.
“We call on Oklahoma’s congressional delegation to stand up for our state and demand an end to this harmful freeze,” Alicia Andrews continued. “Oklahomans deserve leadership that puts people over politics. The Oklahoma Democratic Party will not stand idly by while our communities suffer.”
The Oklahoma Democratic Party urges all residents to contact their federal representatives and demand swift action to restore funding. We remain committed to fighting for the resources our state needs to thrive.
