Help us stand up for our ballot initiative rights by contacting your state legislators today!

Once again, Republican politicians in the Idaho Statehouse are attacking your rights. This time, Rep. Bruce Skaug introduced a bill to make it harder for Idahoans to pass citizen-led initiatives by requiring 60% of the vote instead of a simple majority. That means just 40.1% of voters could block something supported by 59.9%. That's not fair, and it's not how democracy is supposed to work.

Here's why this is wrong:

- Bills in the Idaho Legislature only need a simple majority to pass. Why should the people have to meet higher standards than the politicians elected to represent them?
- Under this new rule, half of Idaho's initiatives passed by a majority would have failed. This includes the 1982 homeowner's property tax exemption and the 1994 Term Limits initiative, which received strong public support but less than 60%.
- In 2021, the Idaho Supreme Court ruled that Idahoans have a fundamental right to the ballot initiative process. Despite this, GOP legislators are relentless in their attempts to undermine your voice.
- If this bill becomes law, Idaho will have the toughest initiative rules in the country. No other state requires 60% of the vote for all laws proposed by citizens.

This is about power, plain and simple. Idaho Republicans want to stack the deck against the people they're supposed to represent.

Speak up now! Tell your legislators to vote NO on this attack on democracy. The people of Idaho deserve better.
