VIRGINIA – This week the intensifying GOP Governor slugfest continued as Winsome Earle-Sears, Dave LaRock, and Amanda Chase race to the right taking extreme positions and tearing each other down all while leaving Virginians behind.
SHUT UP & DRIVE
Right Turn: A new story from the Washington Post detailed how Sears is “fully embracing” Donald Trump despite his ongoing attacks on Virginia’s workforce and economy, as well as how Sears, LaRock, and Chase are “elbowing one another to strike the most pro-Trump pose.”
VROOM, VROOM
Mothertrucker: On Monday, as candidates filed signatures to get on the ballot, a billboard truck circled the block highlighting the GOP Governor’s “race to the right.” Sears sent a staffer with her petitions (avoiding the truck) and tried to hide her final count with a post-it note (suggesting she gathered less than she wanted as rumors of her campaign setbacks swirl).
3 CAR PILE-UP
The Trump Card: During an interview, Sears confirmed she's talked with Donald Trump, but refused to comment on the content of the conversation. Her comments might have been an attempt to step on Amanda Chase’s teasing of a Trump endorsement, saying that she "received a phone call from the White House,” feels “very positive” that there will be a Trump endorsement in the primary now that she’s in the race, and recalled that Trump previously said he would “be with me in my next campaign.”
LaRock, Paper, Scissors: In an interview with former Trump Co-Chair John Fredericks, LaRock slammed Winsome Earle-Sears for being unable to unite the Virginia GOP and having no track record to run on, and if that wasn’t tough enough for Sears, LaRock then repeated the same attacks again and again. Sears responded with a jab calling LaRock “a person of no character.”
THE FINISH LINE
Bottom line: No matter who comes in first in the race to the right or how much the GOP candidates fight each other, they all agree on the same radical agenda backing ongoing attacks on Virginia jobs and workers, defunding public schools, and ripping away reproductive rights.
