From: Waco FoundationThe Journey Continues
These days it is easy to find polarizing content on all things race related. Whether it is in letters to the editor, social media or news stories, DEI efforts and racial equity initiatives are making the news every day. The weaponization of certain words, sentiments or deeds has become so common that it can sometimes be difficult to find people who want to connect and advance this work. Today, as I sit with what it means to, “play the long game,” I am reminded of REI’s admonishment that we must maintain hope.
In response, I find myself scanning the horizon, looking for the ones who, either through ownership or allyship, make the commitment to press on. These are the people who decide the work of advancing racial equity is not one that can be divorced from the fabric of our lives, not a stance we can put down and pick back up later, once things have cooled down. So I am thankful for the work happening Waco – all the groups and institutions that have named racial equity as a value and are working hard to embed that value into their day-to-day operation. I am also thankful for the growing network of Racial Equity & Groundwater Institute practitioners and alumni across the US who serve as inspiration of what communities can do when united in this vital work.
Who or what is keeping you motivated these days?
