“Nevada would have to come up with $6.7 billion or else throw hundreds of thousands of Silver State residents off their health insurance”
New reporting from the Reno Gazette-Journal found that Nevada would be the third most impacted state by House Republicans’ proposed Medicaid cuts. These cuts could cost the state nearly $1.9 billion over the next two years and kick more than 300,000 Nevadans off their health insurance, doubling the state’s uninsured rate.
In response, GOP Assembly Minority Leader said he was “not concerned about how the federal budget cuts could impact Nevadans”, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, and Joe Lombardo told the Nevada Independent he doesn’t have a contingency plan, offering no solution to the disruption potential cuts could cause working families.
Last week, from the U.S. Senate to the State Legislature, Nevada Democrats have been clear that House Republicans’ proposed cuts to Medicaid would be devastating to Nevadans’ health and economy. Congressman Horsford addressed the state legislature last week and warned that the toll of Republicans’ Medicaid cuts, he said, “can’t afford the capital costs – and we can’t afford the human toll either.”
Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Tai Sims:
“As Donald Trump and House Republicans prepare to rip away health care from more than 300,000 Nevadans – Joe Lombardo and Nevada Republicans have no contingency plan and could not care less. Meanwhile, Nevada Democrats across the federal and state government have been ringing the alarm bells about the devastation Trump’s cuts would have on Nevada.”
