All Santa Rosa County Libraries will be closed on Mon., May 29, in observance of Memorial Day.

Military Appreciation Month
May is National Military Appreciation Month. Join the Santa Rosa County Library System as we recognize and show appreciation for the contributions of the courageous men and women who have served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces. Visit your local library and fill out a star to thank our local service members for their service. The stars will be displayed in each library throughout the month.

Harry Potter Costume Day & Trivia Hour – Gulf Breeze Library – 1060 Shoreline Dr.
May 2, 2 – 3 p.m.
The Gulf Breeze Library will be celebrating Harry Potter Day with an all day costume party and Harry Potter Trivia hour from 2 - 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2. There will be stickers and bookmarks for anyone who stops by the library on that day wearing Hogwarts attire, and prizes for the trivia winners. This program is for all ages.

Comic Book Crusaders – Gulf Breeze Library – 1060 Shoreline Dr.
May 2, 4 p.m.
Enjoy reading and discussing comic books and superhero movies with others? Interested in learning about the origin of some favorite superhero characters? If so, join the Comic Book Crusaders to learn and discuss comic books and superheroes from the Marvel and DC universes. This month’s discussion topic is X-Men. This special interest book club is for ages 18 and older.

Visit the Gulf Breeze Library on May 4 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. for Star Wars themed games, activities, and crafts. Feel free to wear a costume and take a photo in front of a Star Wars backdrop. No costume, no problem - the library will have photo props available.

Visit the Navarre Library on the first Thursday each month from 4-6 p.m. for an open art studio. Design your own project or make a special project which changes each month. All art materials are provided by the Friends of the Navarre Library. This is a drop-in program and is open to all ages; children should be accompanied by an adult.

Meet! Play! Learn! – Gulf Breeze Library – 1060 Shoreline Dr.

Meet! Play! Learn! is a program where parents of young children can congregate and socialize with other parents while their children play and make friends at age-appropriate activity stations set up around the room. This program is for children ages birth to 5 who have not yet started kindergarten.

Community Chess – Pace Library – 4750 Pace Patriot Blvd.
May 6, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Chess players of all ages, come and play chess in the Pace Library on the first Saturday of the month from 10 am- 4 pm. Knowledge of the game is recommended as no lessons will be provided. All players are expected to show good sportsmanship. The library has a limited supply of chess sets; [layers are encouraged to bring their own. Table space is limited. No table reservations at this time - first come, first served. Speak with a staff member for more information.

UF/IFAS Extension Office Educational Programs
The UF/IFAS Extension office presents monthly research-based educational programs in agriculture, horticulture, family and consumer sciences, and more. May’s topic is pollinator gardening. Pollinators are a critical resource, and learning what attracts them is crucial for lawn and landscape success. It will be presented on the following dates:

STEAM Makerspace – Gulf Breeze Library - 1060 Shoreline Dr.

Come explore, build, and create at STEAM Makerspace on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays each month from 4 - 6 p.m. Craft and create all sorts of things using library-supplied crafting materials and art supplies, or bring your own. Learn simple code with coding robots or explore the world with AR devices. All ages are welcome, but children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Sixth through 10th graders are invited to read either the novel or graphic novel version of the book of the month and meet to share their ideas about it. This month’s selection is “Lost Stars” by Claudia Gray. Registration is required.

AniManga Club – Gulf Breeze Library – 1060 Shoreline Dr.

The Animanga Club is for teens who are interested in manga and anime art styles and animation. Teens analyze and evaluate animated styles, discuss tools and technology used in animation and cartooning, and create and share their art and drawing techniques with other teens in the club. This club is open to teens ages 13 - 17. Registration is required.

Summer Reading Registration – All Libraries & Online

All ages are invited to register for Summer Reading beginning May 26, both online and at the libraries. After registering, pick up a reading calendar at your library or print one from our website.
