From: Colorado Governor Jared PolisDENVER - Today, the Polis-Primavera administration announced that the Property Tax, Rent, Heat (PTC) Rebate is now available to Colorado residents based on income, including people with disabilities and older adults, to help with their property tax, rent, and/or heat expenses this winter and beyond. The rebate amount can be up to $1,044 a year for applicants.
"This money-saving opportunity is one of over 100 ways we are continuing to save Coloradans money, with savings of up to $1,044 on property tax, rent, and heat for eligible Coloradans," said Governor Jared Polis.
Eligible Coloradans include seniors, Coloradans with disabilities, and individuals with a total income of less than $16,925 or a married couple with total combined income of less than $22,858. The Property Tax, Rent, Heat Rebate has provided transformative relief to over 13,000 Coloradans since 2019 at the start of the Polis-Primavera administration. The Colorado Department of Revenue (DOR) outreach campaign increased the number of applications by more than 14% in 2022 compared to 2021. In 2023, this program could provide more than $7 million in relief to Coloradans ensuring seniors and Coloradans with disabilities can heat and remain in their homes.
For tax year 2022 only, there is a refundable income tax credit that may be available for seniors who are unable to take advantage of the senior property tax exemption. This credit phases out based on the applicant's income, and is up to $1,000 for joint filers.
“Access to stable housing with heating is essential to overall health and wellness. Governor Polis and I are committed to making Colorado a place where all people can thrive, and we’re excited to offer this new rebate that will put money back in the pockets of Coloradans who need it most,” said Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera.
In an effort to continue awareness of this program, the DOR will offer the PTC Rebate application form and instructions in Spanish again for the 2022 benefit year.
The PTC Rebate application form is one of many that the DOR will be making available in Spanish over the next few years in an effort to better serve Colorado and enable access to information in people’s language of choice. According to the 2021 American Community Survey, over 600,000 households in Colorado speak Spanish at home, which is 26.9% of Colorado families.
The PTC Rebate webpage meets web accessibility guidelines to make it easier for people with disabilities to get information and apply.
“Our mission is to support all Coloradans with a focus on how we support underserved and underrepresented communities. We want to remove any barriers to information and ensure equal access for everyone who interacts with the department,” said DOR Executive Director Mark Ferrandino.
