Soft Skills for Designers
5 Thursdays, 9/21 - 10/26 (No class 10/12) 6:00p - 9:00p PT, $425
Instructor: Emily Parcell, Founder, Human-Centered Leader
Employers don’t just care about your technical abilities. They also want to know if you’re a great collaborator, a level-headed recipient of criticism, an efficient time manager, and someone who can get their ideas across a conference table or a Zoom call. Having these soft skills up your sleeve can make you more hireable or less likely to be declared surplus.
As part of this class, you’ll take the CliftonStrengths skills assessment at no additional charge.
Have you learned Figma yet?
Figma Fundamentals
2 Saturdays, 9/23 and 9/30, 9:30a - 1:00p PT, $325
Instructor: Michael Ortlieb, Head of Design, Data Mgmt, JP Morgan Chase
There must be a reason Adobe paid $20 billion to buy Figma, even when they had their own perfectly good prototyping software. That reason is Figma has totally dominated since it was introduced, and it’s hard to find a design team today that doesn’t rely on Figma for prototyping, white-boarding, and collaborating. So, if you’ve been putting off learning this “must-know” industry standard, wait no more. Join us and leave as a very competent Figma user after just two half-day sessions.
Not a class, but a pretty cool job opportunity.
Maybe you’ve shopped for cool letterpress cards and ephemera at Paper Hammer on Seattle’s 2nd Avenue. Well, there’s a door inside the store, and behind that door is the world-class design studio of Marquand Books. They turn out the most gorgeous, exquisitely printed museum catalogs and art books you’ve ever seen. And guess what? They’re hiring. If you know a thing or two about rights management and image licensing, they’d like to talk to you. And we bet you’d like to read their job description.
