From: Hawaii Governor Josh Green, M.D.By the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the State of Hawai’i, to provide relief for disaster damages, losses, and suffering, and to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the people, I, JOSH GREEN, M.D, Governor of the State of Hawai’i, proclaim as follows:
WHEREAS, on August 24, 2024, I issued my Proclamation Relating to Tropical Storm Hone as it approached the State;
WHEREAS, Tropical Storm and Hurricane Hone passed just to the south of Hawaii Island over the weekend of August 24 and 25, 2024.
WHEREAS, Hone caused heavy rains, high winds, and flooding in the County of Hawai’i as it passed the State;
WHEREAS, it is critical that the State and County conduct damage assessments and further respond to the impacts caused by Hone in the County of Hawai’i, to protect life, safety, property, and the environment; and
WHEREAS, it is also critical that the Major Disaster Fund be readily available to fund the continuing government response to Hone;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSH GREEN, M.D., Governor ofthe State of Hawai’i, hereby declare the existence of a state of emergency under section 127A-14, Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS), to allow continued government response to the impacts of Tropical Storm and Hurricane Hone. This Proclamation covers the County of Hawai’i. I further authorize and invoke the following emergency provisions, if not already in effect upon this declaration of an emergency:
I. Invocation of Laws
Section 121-30, HRS. I authorize and direct the Adjutant General to activate such units of the Hawai’i National Guard as may be necessary to assist and aid civilian authorities in disaster relief and in averting any imminent public danger and threat and to ensure the compliance with the civil laws of the State of Hawai’i.
