Senator Daines is Too Scared to Confront Constituents

Government and Politics

Helena, MT -- MTN News reports Montanans rallied in front of Senator Steve Daines’ office in Missoula on Tuesday, protesting government cuts and firings led by President Trump and Elon Musk’s DOGE. On March 18th’s rally focused on the growing threats to Medicaid funding and the potential impacts on the millions of Americans who rely on social safety net programs.

"Medicaid is a critically important program in our state, in our country. It covers about 1 in 5 Montanans, close to two in five kids in Montana, and is the difference between having access to health care," said Timothy Caramore, a family physician who attended the rally.

Montana’s all-Republican national delegation continues to receive growing criticism for their absence and refusal to hold in-person, public events in the wake of President Trump and Elon Musk’s slashes and cuts to the federal government. Protesters expressed their frustration with Montana’s leadership, including Senator Daines, and called them out for lacking the courage to stand up for working Montanans and their families.

“Unfortunately, it’s the same song and dance from spineless Senator Steve Daines,” said Interim Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party, Justin Ailport. “Senator Daines knows he’s better off hiding in Washington among his swamp-dwelling friends instead of confronting his frustrated constituents in Montana. Daines is clearly more concerned about protecting the interests of Donald Trump and Elon Musk over anyone else. Montanans deserve better.”
