Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance have awarded South Central Insurance Agency (SCI) a 2025 Make More Happen Award for its dedicated volunteerism with Habitat for Humanity of Pulaski County, a nonprofit committed to ensuring that everyone has access to safe, affordable housing. The award includes an initial donation of $5,000 for Habitat for Humanity, which can be doubled to $10,000 by having community supporters vote online.
Starting Monday, March 3, the South Central Insurance Agency and Habitat for Humanity of Pulaski County’s story will be featured on the official Make More Happen microsite at https://www.agentgiving.com/making-critical-repairs-to-keep-people-in-their-homes/. Supporters can vote to help the team reach their donation goal. If the featured story receives a combination of at least 500 votes and comments, the $5,000 donation will be increased to $10,000. The $10,000 donation will enable Habitat to complete essential home repairs for multiple homeowners, such as replacing windows and doors or winterizing homes. It could also fund materials to replace two complete roofs or install waterproof flooring in four homes.
The need for affordable housing in Pulaski County is growing, and Kristi Philips, owner of SCI and Board President of the local Habitat for Humanity chapter, has witnessed firsthand the transformative power of stable housing. Since 2011, Habitat for Humanity of Pulaski County has been constructing and renovating homes, ensuring families have a place to call their own. In recent years, the chapter has built four homes, including three as part of a Veterans Village dedicated to a beloved local veteran and shop owner.
“We are honored and incredibly grateful to receive the 2025 Make More Happen Award, allowing us to continue giving back to our community and supporting the Habitat for Humanity of Pulaski County,” said Philips. “The Habitat for Humanity of Pulaski County has made a significant impact, and we are thrilled at the opportunity to double this donation with community support.”
In addition to building homes, Habitat volunteers provide critical home repairs, allowing residents to remain safe in their homes. SCI regularly participates in Rock the Block, a community cleanup initiative that assists homeowners in maintaining their homes, ultimately improving neighborhood property values.
“Recognizing independent agents’ dedication to their communities and nonprofit partners is what the Make More Happen Awards are all about,” said Steve Milby, Liberty Mutual MidAtlantic Senior Territory Manager. “South Central Insurance Agency is a shining example of how agencies can make a real difference, and we hope sharing their story inspires others to support affordable housing efforts.”
Throughout 2025, Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance will select up to 36 independent agencies nationwide for a Make More Happen Award, donating up to $360,000 to nonprofits they support. Agencies become eligible for the award by submitting applications showcasing their commitment to a specific cause.
