From: Space 4 Art

Have you heard the great news? Space 4 Art is the proud recipient of a $150,000 grant from Prebys Foundation, the largest independent private foundation in San Diego County. The foundation invests in four program areas: visual and performing arts, medical research, healthcare, and youth success.

“Our communities are better thanks to the work of Space 4 Art,” said Grant Oliphant, CEO of Prebys Foundation. “This is why we are proud to invest $150,000 in their work advancing our shared vision for a vibrant and thriving region. We encourage others to support, learn more, and celebrate their work.”

This grant— an Internal and External Capacity Building Support Grant —will be shared with Space 4 Art over the next 24 months. We are both humbled and honored by this generous, long-range support.

As much as we rely on generous institutional funders like Prebys Foundation, it takes a whole village to make a positive and lasting impact in our region. That's why we are asking you today to support our mission and programs by contributing to our year-end "Bridge the Gap" campaign.  Every gift helps us offset the daily gap between what we take in through rents and what we spend for operations, outreach programs, maintenance, utilities, etc.

A $350 gift, for example, would provide one educational workshop as part of our outreach program. Space 4 Art’s educational workshops are designed in concert with community partners, teachers, and students, and are grounded in an artist’s area of expertise. Our approach empowers students to create through free STEM-based arts programming.

Thank you so much to those who have already donated toward our year-end campaign to “Bridge the Gap” for 2023! We so appreciate your generous support!

We finished the year strong with our arts outreach program! Director of Operations Suchita Jariwala facilitated an immersive cultural and arts workshop at Monarch School, teaching students about the Indian festival of Diwali and the art of making “diyas.” Artists Sean Francis Conway and Abril Diaz recently wrapped up their fall programming at King-Chavez Neighborhood of Schools, where students learned drumming, instrument-making, collaging, and playing the djembe, among other activities.

In addition to continuing regular programming, we are excited to launch our winter outreach with a new partner, Marcy High School. Marcy is an alternative high school for students whose underlying mental-health issues impede their ability to benefit from an education within a comprehensive school setting. Several of our artists— Linda Litteral, Brennan Hubbell and Abril Diaz - will be working with their students to bring the healing power of art and music to their small rehabilitative group settings, culminating in an Open House where students can proudly showcase their work.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Open Studios last weekend! We enjoyed the warmth of great conversation, as well as the inspiration of great performances and art. Wishing you peace and good will this holiday season, we look forward to seeing you at some new events in 2024!
