From: Space 4 ArtBig thanks to all who joined us at our April 20th workshop and networking event— the first in our series of four convenings. It was a huge success, and we are so grateful for everyone’s enthusiastic participation in our charrettes. Watch for an extensive blog report, with all the information we gathered, in late May.
In the meantime, check out this photo documentation from April 20, with many thanks and photo credit to Sam Hodgson of Uptown 11.
If you missed our April 20 event, you have a second chance to participate in a design charrette. Our next workshop is on Friday, May 17 from 9:30 AM - 1:00 PM at Mesa College. Following a similar format to last month’s workshop, this second gathering will be geared specifically towards college and high school students in the arts. (However, arts supporters of any age are still welcome to attend.)
We will talk with attendees about Space 4 Art’s successes and setbacks throughout our 15 years of existence, so that they gain an understanding of the constant struggle to provide affordable live/work spaces for our region’s artists. Then we’ll engage them in three design charrettes, so they can share their own ideas about what future generations of artmakers need to survive and thrive in the SD/TJ region.
The schedule is as follows:
9:30 AM - 10:00 AM: Check In and Refreshments
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Design Workshop
(including small breakout sessions and full group discussion)
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM: Networking Lunch (BYOBL: Bring Your Own Bag Lunch)
Thank you to Mesa College for hosting this second workshop!
There is limited seating available in the classroom, so registration is required by Tuesday, May 14. As always, these events are free to the public.
Come advocate for the City Council to restore arts and culture funding that Mayor Todd Gloria cut as part of his austerity budget for the coming year. Every Councilmember knows that investing in the arts produces tangible economic, social, and cultural returns, but they need to hear from the public in order to prioritize our funding. The next meeting is tomorrow; come stand and speak up for this essential funding that powers all of our arts and culture groups!
Space 4 Art's events are free to the public thanks, in part, to generous funding from the Seth Sprague Educational and Charitable Foundation. Click to check out our 2024 events calendar.
Linda Litteral, a longtime resident artist and board member at Space 4 Art, was recently interviewed by the San Diego Union-Tribune regarding her participation in an art exhibit called Women Work Together that opened last weekend. Click below to read Linda's interview, where she discusses her healing art practice as well as her collaborative pieces in the current art show.
