From: Space 4 ArtCelebrating 15 Years of Making Space for Art
Happy Anniversary, Space 4 Art! On this very day 15 years ago, our founders signed the lease for our Space— one where we provide affordable spaces so artists can live, work, mentor youth, and interact with the community.
In honor of our anniversary, some of our board members will match the first six people who enroll TODAY as $15 recurring monthly donors!
While 2009 was a year of laying the conceptual groundwork for Space 4 Art, 2010 was a year of building and new beginnings. After the lease was signed and the future celebrated with an epic New Year’s Eve party, crews of volunteer artists and community members spent the first half of 2010 building out the rented warehouses to create studios, with 15 artists ultimately holding leases by the end of that first year.
Fast forward to the present day, when we currently support 34 tenants— six in live/work units and 28 in studios. Over the past 15 years, we have supported over 150 artists in affordable studios!
Yet, we have only ever had the resources to operate a small-scale version of our founders’ expansive vision. As our anniversary year dawns, the challenges of running our Space and planning for the future grow more acute. Now more than ever, we need your support.
Open Studios
Saturday, December 14 from 6-8:30 pm!
Come celebrate Space 4 Art’s 15th anniversary during Open Studios this Saturday, December 14 from 6-8:30 pm! This special event will feature a great lineup of live music and a mini pop-up art show, Holding Onto Hope.
Curated by Alaric López, the show features works by resident artists responding to challenging personal, social, and political events. As always, if you’re interested in purchasing art (from the art show or an individual studio), please feel free to ask. Resident artists get 100% of art-sale profits; we never take a commission. Come support local artists and take home a unique gift for yourself or someone on your holiday list!
