This month, we’re overjoyed to share with you what we’re listening to, the concerts we’re preparing for you, as well as the exciting community events you should save a spot for on your calendar. However you choose to experience live music this month, we hope it gives you a thrilling, fantastically fun start to 2023.
Spotlight: Music Sandwiched In
Did you know that Music Sandwiched In is in its 26th Season? Beyond an opportunity to provide our community with access to a wide variety of music, MSI is also a special series for the musicians that play on the Spartanburg County Public Library stage. It gives them yet another way to showcase their talent, artistry, and love of music, something SPhil Assistant Principal Oboe Kelly Vaneman shared with the audience during her last MSI performance. Hear Kelly talk about why she loves playing in this unique concert series, then experience Music Sandwiched In for yourself.
Fans of our Bluegrass Spartanburg concert series - we've got a show for you. Especially if you enjoy a good story and banjo music. This January 13-22 our friends at the Spartanburg Little Theatre are performing Bright Star, a heartwarming musical inspired by real events and featuring a GRAMMY-nominated bluegrass score. Even better, the music and story was written by renown actor and accomplished bluegrass banjo player, Steve Martin. Grab your tickets soon - SLT productions regularly sell out.
The Spartanburg Philharmonic has a deep love for ALL kinds of music, and bluegrass is no exception. Within this one genre is a range of musical styles. Some bands stick close to the old-time roots; some bring in the sounds of everything from gospel to rock, blues, and jazz. Every Bluegrass Spartanburg concert is a different experience, but one thing you can always count on is a fun, toe-tapping night of incredible music.
We kick off 2023 with one of the best bands on the Bluegrass circuit - The SteelDrivers. And when asked about their sound, singer-songwriter and fiddler for the band, Tammy Rogers says, "Some people describe our music as being bluegrass based, but the fact is, we’re not bound to any one regimen. I liken us to what the Rolling Stones would sound like if they played banjos, fiddles, and mandolins.” And with only 50 tickets left, February 4 will be one of the best nights of bluegrass in the 'Burg this year. Don’t miss out!
