Joe Lombardo and his team are attempting to rewrite history claiming that if he hadn’t won the governorship, Nevada would have “sky-high unemployment” – in reality, under Joe Lombardo, Nevada’s unemployment rate is higher today than when he took office in 2023 or at any time in 2022 when he was running for higher office. On Lombardo’s watch, Nevada’s unemployment rate has not only failed to go down to pre-pandemic levels, but has again risen to be the highest in the nation, with over 80,000 Nevadans unemployed.
While on the campaign trail in 2022, Lombardo said the governor could “control” Nevada having the third highest unemployment rate in the nation, yet since taking office he has done little while Nevada again has the highest unemployment rate in the country. Lombardo made Nevada’s unemployment rate a central part of his campaign, and has failed to own the fact that under him, Nevada had one of the lowest job growth rates in the nation.
Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Tai Sims:
“Joe Lombardo and his team are blatantly lying to Nevadans. Under Lombardo, unemployment, homelessness, and food insecurity continue to rise while the cost of housing and health care continue to be more expensive, but Lombardo has blocked efforts to lower costs for Nevadans – including vetoing legislation that would have lowered housing and prescription drug costs and guaranteed school meals for every student in Nevada.”
