The Iceworm Festival is one of Alaska's best known winter festivals, and Cordova's oldest community festival. Each year, we come together to put on a jam packed week of fun for all ages. We'd love to have you join us!

1:00 – 3:00pm : The Flagon Slayer BeerMile!

BeerMile is a foot race involving drinking 4 beers and running 4 quarter miles. Drink, run, drink, run, etc. Racers must be of legal drinking age, provide their own racing beer, and transportation. Hosted by - Micah Renfeldt. Event Cost - Its Free!

6:00 – 8:00pm : BackCountry Safety Talk

Mike Buck will be leading a presentation at the Prince William Sound Science Center about Backcountry Safety. Throughout this presentation, he will discuss a variety of topics including avoiding hazards, proper planning, avalanche awareness, ATV & snowmobile safety, and more! Hosted by - Prince William Sound Science Center. Event Cost - Its Free!

Paper Airplane Contest

Paper can be purchased for $5 - 12 sheets, $10 - 25 sheets. Start practicing your paper airplane making skills. The Paper Airplane Contest helps kick off the festival the weekend before the main events. Purchase as many papers as you'd like, make as many planes as you can, and try to get them in a box to collect the prize contained in the box. In the weeks before the festival, a special piece of paper will be given to every Mt. Eccles Elementary Student, courtesy of Club 49 - Alaska Airlines.

Oyster Shuck

The beloved Oyster Shuck tradition continues at Copper River Brewing with oysters from Simpson Bay Oyster Co. Compete on your own in the singles heat or team up with a partner to compete in the doubles heat. Be the fastest to shuck your oysters em' down to win some Copper River Brewing prizes! Oysters must be purchased at Copper River Brewing for the competition. Call 907-424-3355 and reserve your spot as oysters are limited and this is a fierce Iceworm tradition of Cordova competition at its finest. Hosted by - Copper River Brewing. Iceworm Revue

The Iceworm Revue captures a piece of the raw talent for the arts that exists in our community. It showcases 3-10 acts, as well as formally announcing the Citizen of the Year. The highlight of the evening is the crowning of Miss Iceworm. Rehearsals take place the night before. Hosted by - Iceworm Board. Event Cost - $10 per person

9:00 – 9:15am : Flag Raising

Join us for the annual Flag Raising, done by the local USCG Cutter Fir coast guardsmen and our local scouts. This takes place at the Cordova Center at sunrise. Hosted by - Iceworm Festival. Event Cost - Its Free!

9:30 – 10:00am : Fishermens Memorial Prayer

Each year, the local clergy from all denominations acknowledge and pray for those we've lost. They will read the plaques at the Fishermen's Memorial, and pray for recently lost fishermen and community members. Hosted by - Iceworm Festival. Event Cost - Its Free!

10:00 – 11:00am : Survival Suit Races

Teams of 4 of all ages can register below to don their survival suits and races across the harbor to the raft. Practice takes place at the Bob Korn Memorial Pool the week of.  Miss Iceworm and her court judge the races based on speed and style points! Put on a little show for the crowd and you could take home a ribbon! There are 4 categories that contestants are judged on; Fastest team, fastest male swimmer, fastest female swimmer, and artistic impression, for those with more flare than speed Hosted by - Deryn Carter. 1:00 – 2:00pm : Iceworm Parade

Join us for Cordova's community parade! Build a float, have a walking group enter, or just partake from the sidelines. Hosted by - Iceworm Festival. Event Cost - Its Free!

1:30 – 3:00pm : Pioneer Ice cream feed

Following the parade, drop by the Pioneer Igloo for a bowl or cone of ice cream. Hosted by - Max Wiese. Event Cost - Its Free!

8:00 – 8:30pm : Iceworm Fireworks Extravaganza

While most people in the lower 48 enjoy their fireworks on the 4th of July, or even on New Year's Eve, Cordova does it up big for Iceworm and Iceworm alone. Lantis Fireworks puts on an incredible show for us each year on the last day of the festival. It is the best grand finale, and the only firework show Cordova has! The Iceworm Board works hard to collect sponsorships for the festival and for the Iceworm Fireworks Extravaganza. It’s our big yearly expenditure, and so incredibly worth it.
