The Kennedy Creek Old-Time Music Festival takes place every autumn at the Kennedy Creek Resort in Suches, GA. Participants are invited to reserve cabins, yurts, or campsites, and food is available at the resort restaurant. Guest artists lead jams, teach workshops, and present concerts, but the main event is always jamming with friends. Admission is free.

The 2023 festival will take place September 7–10, 2023. Our guest artists will be the Short House Serenaders (Sarah Adams, Van Burchfield, and Isaac Stroupe).

Sarah Adams grew up playing music in Dahlonega, Georgia. She was one of the first students to participate in the Georgia Pick & Bow Traditional Music School program, learning and later teaching mandolin, and performed regularly with her brother and sister throughout north Georgia. After graduating from college, Sarah returned to the region and studied fiddle from Mick and Evan Kinney. She strives to play music with character and enjoys the moment that she doesn’t quite know what note she’ll try playing next.

A devoted student of traditional string band styles and repertoires, Van Burchfield has studied and performed old time string band music for over a decade on guitar, banjo, and fiddle. Born and raised in South Carolina, he currently makes his home in Nashville, TN.

Isaac Stroupe began playing mandolin at age 5 is his family’s bluegrass band in Gaston County, North Carolina before discovering the music of 78rpm records, taking up guitar, and intensely studying the styles of rural guitarists of the 1920s and ’30s.

Using these styles as a jumping off point, he composed several records of American Primitive guitar music and toured nationally under the moniker Moses Nesh. He has worked as a full time luthier for 13 years and now resides in Rossville, Georgia building flattop guitars in his workshop, Minerva Fretworks, as well as recently founding Chattanooga Fine Violins.
