From: The Provincetown TheaterDear Provincetown Community,
My solo play TOWN MEETING didn’t fully come into its own until the Provincetown Theater gave me the chance to stage it this past June. I can’t overstate how much better this piece became thanks to the Theater’s support. With the opportunity to focus solely on my writing and performance, I experienced incredible freedom as a full team of talented professionals handled everything else. Without their support, my play would not have reached the level it did. This remarkable experience gave me the hope and drive to continue pursuing my art, especially in a world where independent artists rarely find institutional support. It’s places like the Provincetown Theater—and the people who believe in them—that sustain artists like me.
The Provincetown Theater isn’t just a venue; it’s an artistic home that fosters growth and nurtures creativity. It gives local writers like me, Meryl Cohn, and Jon Richardson, among many others, a rare opportunity to present our work with true professionalism. While I adore performing in the sand on the beach, presenting my work at the Theater allowed me to see it as a more complete, finished piece—and part of Provincetown’s wider tradition and history of theatrical innovation.
Provincetown Theater is more than just a “seed ground” for new work; it’s a year-round gathering place that unites our community in shared experiences and artistic dialogue. This is where we, as a community, come together to see art, discuss art, and celebrate each other. Provincetown Theater creates the space for this all year, allowing those who live and visit here to connect deeply through art. They are not just creating work; they’re creating a community.
By supporting Provincetown Theater, you’re preserving and continuing the tradition of Provincetown as a place of artistic growth, creativity, and connection. Your contribution makes you a part of our town’s theatrical history. You are supporting local actors, talented visiting artists, and countless behind-the-scenes individuals dedicated to the arts. Most importantly, you support independent artists like me by giving our work a home.
Please, join us in sustaining this radically important institution. Your support towards our year-end fundraising goal of $80,000 enables us to keep telling our stories, to keep creating, and to keep building the community we all cherish.
Make your donation today to keep the Provincetown Theater, and theater in Provincetown, thriving.
Gratefully,
Cody Sullivan, Playwright in Residence
