It's fall! The leaves and nuts are falling, we are starting to see some fall color, and the nights are cool. It's a busy month in the community, as well as here at the library. We've highlighted some of next week's events below, as well as some events later in the month. You can always find more information about library collections and activities on our website - it's there for you 24/7, even when the library is closed.

Kids Chess Club
Saturday, October 7 from 2:00- 3:30 pm
There is still room in today's program!
Join Andy Morris-Friedman to learn the basics of chess and advance to other exciting strategies of the game! We will also meet on the first Saturday of the month on November 4 and December 2. This program is for children ages 9 and up. To register and learn more, send us an email!
Holiday Closing
The Jones Library and branches will be closed on Sunday, October 8 and Monday, October 9 in observance of Indigenous Peoples' Day.
The library catalog will be inaccessible for a short time on Sunday, October 8 at 7:00 PM. Downtime is expected to be less than 30 minutes
Reading the Classics
Tuesday, October 10 from 7:00 - 8:30 pm
Join us for the fall series of the Reading the Classics book group, facilitated by Amherst College professor Ilan Stavans. Meeting via Zoom at 7:00 pm on the second Tuesday of the month, the evening consists of a lecture portion given by Prof. Stavans, followed by discussion of the selected reading. The works chosen for discussion this month are the well-known stories from the classic The Arabian Nights. Learn more and register.
Sing with Your Baby
Wednesday, October 11 from 10:30 - 11:30 am
Our fall session of Sing with Your Baby will meet every Wednesday until December 20th! Join Wendy in the Woodbury Room to share songs and fingerplays, followed by time for children to explore musical instruments and socialize. This program is recommended for children ages 0 - 5 and their caregivers.
50+ Job Seekers Networking Group
Wednesday, October 11 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm
Are you a 50+ job seeker? Join us via Zoom in a professional forum for networking with peers in a safe and comfortable environment conducive to developing new relationships and developing skills and strategies to help in your career transition. Each meeting features a new topic. This week's topic is Resumes: The Basics. Learn more and register.

Silvio O. Conte Nature Storytime
Thursday, October 12 from 4:00 - 5:00 pm
Join our neighbors from the Silvio O. Conte Trail to learn about the natural world through stories and hands-on exploration, followed by a craft. In October we will be learning about bats! This program is open to kids of all ages and their caregivers, and will also meet on November 12 and December 10.
Amazing True Stories of Queer History
Thursday, October 12 from 7:00 - 8:00 pm
October is LGBTQ+ History Month! Join author Sarah Prager as she shares fascinating stories from LGBTQ+ history you’ve never heard before. We’ll learn why LGBTQ+ matters, how far back it goes, how it has shaped the world, and who some of the most interesting individuals from it are.
Teen Lounge
Friday, October 13 from 3:30 - 5:00 pm
Stop by the Woodbury Room after school on Friday afternoons. Come play Mario Kart or Super Smash Bros on the big screen. There will also be some crafts, board games, and good times. Come hang out with friends or make some new ones! No reservation required. This program is for ages 11 to 17

A Teen Poetry Workshop
Saturday, October 14 from 4:00 - 5:00 pm
Join us this fall in the Amherst Room on Saturday afternoons for an ongoing series of poetry workshops for teens led by students from the Amherst College Poetry Club. We'll discuss some of our favorite poems, discover new favorites, and write some of our own. Please email us for more information.
Construction Prep Closing
The Jones Library will be closed on Sunday, October 15 and Monday, October 16 for construction preparation work being done in the building.
The Munson Memorial Library will be open regular hours.
