Feb. 21 Council update: Multifamily senior housing approved; Canyons Far South annexation and electric vehicle charger agreement move forward

A proposed multifamily development for seniors in The Meadows was approved; and the Canyons Far South annexation proposal and a lease agreement for an electric vehicle charger in Philip S. Miller Park were granted initial approval at Town Council’s Feb. 21 meeting.

Here is a closer look:

Senior multifamily residential development – Town Council approved the development proposal for an affordable, multifamily senior housing facility in The Meadows. The 5.48-acre site is located northwest of North Meadows Drive and Timber Mill Parkway. The plan includes 200 units within a four-story, 183,238-square-foot building. The building will be age-restricted to 55 years and above, income-restricted and include a mix of one- and two-bedroom units. No food service, medical or nursing support is planned.

The property is zoned commercial/office/industrial as part of The Meadows planned development plan, which allows for senior living facilities

Canyons Far South annexation – Council approved the first reading of an annexation and planned development plan ordinance for Canyons Far South.

The applicant, Canyons South LLC, is proposing that 409 acres located east of Founders Parkway, north of Crimson Sky Drive and west of Castle Oaks Drive be annexed into the Town. The proposal includes zoning the property through a planned development plan to permit 474 single-family residential units, 60,000 square feet of neighborhood commercial space, construction of a new Town park, and over 200 acres of open space to be dedicated to the Town. The undeveloped property is currently zoned for single-family units in unincorporated Douglas County.

Electric vehicle charger agreement – Council approved the first reading of a proposed lease agreement between the Town and CORE Electric Cooperative for the installation of a dual-port electric vehicle charger to be located at Philip S. Miller Park, adjacent to the Miller Activity Complex.

CORE was awarded grant funding from the Charge Ahead Colorado program to install eight electric vehicle chargers located throughout its service area. The grant funding provided to CORE covers 80% of the installation, and CORE would pay the remaining project costs. As such, the Town would not expend any funds to provide the electric vehicle charger for public use, which would be free for at least the first six months.
