SAVE THE DATE: The Low Vision Group will meet on Thursday February 2 at 10:00. Matthew Geeza, from The Connecticut State Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (LBPH), will be presenting resources available to low vision individuals. The LBPH lends books and magazines in audio and braille formats, for free, to any Connecticut resident who is unable to read regular print due to a visual, reading, or physical disability. Please register for this event by Friday, January 27 by calling Mila Rodriguez, Social Services, 203-256-3170 or for more information.

Covid Tests

In addition, all US households are now eligible to order four or more free at home Covid test kits. Visit https://www.covid.gov/tests to order the tests.

Energy Assistance

The Fairfield Human Services Department acts as an intake site for energy assistance during the winter season. Please be aware that residents must apply every year. Applications for Energy Assistance are done by appointment only. Call Social Services at (203) 256-3170 to schedule an appointment.

In Case of Inclement Weather

In case of inclement weather, the Bigelow Center Closings and Delays are publicized on TV channels 12, 8, 6 and 3; on WICC radio; and on the CT Post and Fairfield Citizen websites. Please check for cancellations or delays prior to traveling to the Bigelow Center.

If Fairfield Public Schools have a delayed opening, the Center will open at 10:00. Any activities scheduled prior to 10:00 are cancelled. Bus service will also be delayed until 10:00. If schools are closed due to inclement weather, all Bigelow Center activities/classes/transportation/lunches are cancelled and the Senior Center will be closed. If you’re not sure, call the school system hotline: 203-255-8255.

There are a few openings in the Comfort Cooking-Making Soups class on Wednesday, January 25 at 10:30. Chef Caryn will be making three easy soups: Mushroom soup, Garlic Chickpea Soup, Cream Corn Soup. Fee is $3.
